Why an Inperium affiliation

Payroll

The team needed help consistently meeting payroll. Financial inconsistency had created an environment where several group homes were not able to serve at their full capacity, which further contributed to inconsistent income.

Debt

Large lines of credit and mortgages amounted to over $2.4 million in debt, which they were struggling to operate under.

Documentation Errors

The organization’s line of credit borrowing base certificates contained material errors and misstatements, while books of record were understating losses reported to the board. The team struggled to adapt to a fee-for-service model.

How Inperium helped

Stabilizing

Inperium offered the organization a loan to meet payroll needs and stabilize operations. Meanwhile, Advancing Opportunities voted to approve an interim management team provided by Inperium.

Securing a Path Forward

Inperium’s management team negotiated contract advances for the organization, further stabilizing their financial situation and setting them up for profitability.

Financial Independence

Management helped the organization meet the new fee-for-service model, and within a few months, Advancing Opportunities was creating enough cash flow to cover payroll and operating costs.

Process and steps

Inperium loaned the organization $400,000 to make payroll. Advancing Opportunities approved an interim management team provided by Inperium.

Inperium’s management team met with the State of New Jersey Division of Developmental Disabilities to request $350,000 in contract advances.

Inperium worked to right-size the organization to meet a new fee-for-service model, setting them up for future success and compliance.

By the end of the calendar year, Advancing Opportunities was financially stable, covering their own payroll and operating expenses.

Results

After affiliating with Inperium, Advancing Opportunities successfully negotiated the termination of two unnecessary leases, paid off lines of credit, loans, and mortgages, and settled all state advances, halving its total liabilities. They’ve been able to open three new group homes and one community-based apartment project to serve more people. Since 2021, Advancing Opportunities has increased revenues by over $3 million and net assets by over $2 million. The organization is now financially stable and serving the community according to their mission. 

When Advancing Opportunities affiliated with Inperium, it was a challenging time for the agency as it transitioned to fee for service. As an agency known for quality services, managing the costs of administrative services to support the service delivery was becoming financially difficult. Inperium’s model for management services and leadership guidance immediately allowed Advancing Opportunities to reduce costs, preserve its mission and guaranteed its continuation to serve the disability community in New Jersey. 

 

Today, Advancing Opportunities thrives within the Inperium constellation of services. It partners with similar affiliates with a shared mission and values, and it has managed to expand and grow its services within the state to serve more individuals in need.
