A Call for Assistance
After nearly seventy years of helping New Jerseyans with disabilities, AO found itself on the opposite side of the charitable equation and in desperate need of help itself. When a member of the AO board acknowledged the severity of the crisis they faced and reached out to Inperium, AO would not have been able to meet its next payroll. Inperium executives attended an emergency AO board meeting to present the services they could offer, garnered a vote in favor of affiliation, and had an interim management team and emergency funds in place within days.
Affiliation with Inperium has allowed AO to continue supporting individuals with disabilities, assisting them as they transition to more independent lives. AO works closely with families to minimize the challenges that can come with greater independence, as described by one parent AO serves in Central New Jersey, Victrina Plan, who shared, “It was very difficult for us to relinquish the care of our son. The care that has been provided by AO’s dedicated staff has put us at ease … It is evident that our son is thriving in his new home, and I credit the manager and her team for our son’s invaluable growth.”
The recognition shown by parents and family members for AO demonstrates how the resulting financial and organizational strength through affiliation has allowed it to extend its vital mission.

Results
After affiliating with Inperium, Advancing Opportunities successfully negotiated the termination of two unnecessary leases, paid off lines of credit, loans, and mortgages, and settled all operating advances issued by the State of New Jersey. Taking these actions with Inperium’s guidance, AO cut its total liabilities in half.
Since affiliation they’ve been able to open three new group homes and one community-based apartment project to serve more people. Since 2021, AO has increased revenues by over $3 million and net assets by over $2 million. Leaders promoted from within AO have remained in place since affiliation and are recognized throughout the Inperium constellation for their excellence.
The organization is now financially stable, allowing it to expand its mission of improving the lives of those with disabilities.
